Cursor is made by Anysphere, founded in 2022 in San Francisco. It is a fork of VS Code with AI built into every part of the editor: chat, inline edits, an agent that can run terminal commands, and background agents that work in the cloud while you do something else.
Cursor became one of the fastest-growing developer tools on record, passing $1B in annual revenue in late 2025. In 2026 Anysphere agreed to be acquired by SpaceX. The product and pricing remain Cursor's own.
